Scaleway is a French cloud provider (Iliad Group) that set out to build what European organisations actually need: a complete product catalogue (Kapsule Kubernetes, serverless containers and functions, managed PostgreSQL and Redis, object storage, GPU instances for AI/ML) hosted exclusively in Paris, Amsterdam and Warsaw, under French law. It is SecNumCloud-qualified for its most sensitive tiers and designed from the ground up for data sovereignty. The challenge is that breadth demands expertise across many services. GitOps & platform engineering

Ship features, not infrastructure tickets

Developers push code; ArgoCD syncs it to Kapsule. Terraform manages the underlying infrastructure. Platform changes go through pull requests with automated plan previews. No manual kubectl in production.

How does Scaleway compare to AWS or Azure for sovereignty?

AWS and Azure are US-headquartered and subject to extraterritorial access laws (CLOUD Act). Scaleway is French (Iliad Group), operates exclusively in the EU and offers SecNumCloud-qualified tiers. Sovereignty is built into the company structure, not a regional add-on.

Is the Scaleway product catalogue mature enough for production?

Yes. Kapsule Kubernetes, managed databases, serverless and object storage are production-proven. Where a niche service is missing, we integrate best-of-breed open-source (e.g. Vault, Loki) on Scaleway compute, so you still get one platform.

Can we run AI/ML workloads on Scaleway?

Scaleway offers L4 and H100 GPU instances, managed inference endpoints and object storage for datasets, all under EU jurisdiction. We handle provisioning, networking, cost guardrails and model-serving infrastructure.

What about SecNumCloud: do we need it?

SecNumCloud is relevant if you handle sensitive government or critical-infrastructure data in France. For most commercial workloads the standard Scaleway regions already exceed typical compliance needs, and we advise on which tier fits your risk profile.
